Lose Weight Riding An Indoor Bicycle Trainer|Lose Weight Riding An Indoor Bike Trainer

Have you found yourself either with no motivation to go to the gym because it is just so darn cold or you simply don’t have the time for that drive back and forth while you wait for machines to use? I think we’ve all been there.

Well, there is a very easy solution and you most likely already have half of what you need in your garage. Yes, the first half is a bicycle. Whoa. “What a minute”, I can hear you saying. “There is no way that I am going to ride a bike when it is 15 degrees outside and snow is blowing sideways”. My response. Sure you are, except that you will be using that bike in conjunction with an indoor bike trainer. One of the quickest ways to lose weight is by doing an aerobic exercise and a bike trainer will allow you to do exactly that.

So, what is a bicycle trainer? Well, imagine an exercise bike at the gym but instead of a multi-thousand dollar piece of equipment, a bike trainer allows you to use the skewer on the rear hub of your bike and place that within the trainer. You simply lock that skewer into place on the bike trainer. The rear tire will then sit on a roller and when you pedal, your bicycle will stay stationary as you change gears.

There are many different kinds of bicycle trainers. Namely, a wind trainer, magnetic trainer, fluid trainer, rim drive trainer, and roller trainer. Without getting too much into it, a wind trainer uses a fan, thereby creating resistance. Wind trainers are pretty noisy but they tend to be inexpensive. Magnetic trainers use a series of magnets by the hub/flywheel which creates resistance. Magnetic trainers are usually a step up from wind trainers in that they provide more resistance and make less noise. Of course you will usually pay more for a magnetic trainer but this type of trainer works well for both beginner and intermediate cyclists. Fluid trainers use fluid which is housed in a chamber to create the resistance. It is a step up from a magnetic trainer which gives it yet more resistance yet less noise. Intermediate and professional riders use fluid trainers and the price tag takes another step up. A rim drive trainer is mainly used with mountain bikes. As its name implies, this trainer does not have your bicycles rear tire on a roller but instead uses the rim of the rear tire to propel your bike. No need to replace the rear tire of a mountain bike with a slick if you are using a rim drive trainer. You would have to replace that tire however with any of the previous trainers. A roller trainer uses both of your bikes tires on a set of rollers. It is mainly used for balance purposes by advanced cyclists.

Most indoor bike trainers have resistance settings either on the unit itself or through a remote handlebar extension. The best bike trainers offer multiple levels of resistance. This way, you will not only be able to pedal easy when you want to but just like the exercise bike at the gym, resistance can be changed so that your workout becomes harder. Thus, you burn more calories and lose weight. Riding an exercise bike at the gym is one of the better ways to lose weight. So, instead of riding at the gym, ride an indoor bike trainer and get the same benefits. Plus, you won’t have to deal with the cold weather outside.

  14. Focus on compound workouts. Ab exercises are great for targeting your ab muscles directly but doing push ups and squats are great for stablizing your entire body, creating muscle, and burning up fat all over. They perform a lot more than a single muscle mass group which is why they’re called compound exercises.
